Career Snapshot
Originally from England, I was based at the Western Academy of Beijing from 2008 to 2017. I was the high school educational technology specialist and my primary focus was to work alongside classroom teachers to bring in new and innovative pedagogical practices, brought about by the affordances of new technologies. I was involved in the piloting of an exciting new program focusing on a self-directed learning program for some of our senior students. More recently I have moved to Brisbane, Australia, as the HoD STEM and Enrichment at QASMT.
I’ve been a global educator for over twenty years, mostly in global schools in Asia. I’ve taught at many levels in schools from Grade 1 through to Grade 12, although I have to say that I most enjoy the challenge of the upper teens as they transform into young adults. Prior to teaching, I was a programmer and marketer in the computer industry and I’m so excited to see coding making a big comeback in schools with all the STEAM initiatives. Last year we had almost fifty students go from ‘zero-to-hero’ in one semester as they designed and programmed apps for their mobile phones!
“I love being part of the Eduro team as we have some exceptionally talented educators from whom I draw much of my inspiration.”
I am always learning, informally through social media channels and formally through my current MEd studies in Knowledge Networks and Digital Innovation. My current focus is games-based learning, connectivism and designing spaces for learning.
I’m also the Executive Director of Learning2 where I have the privilege to work with global team of inspirational teachers to organise educational conferences. I’m also one of the founding
investors of Eduro Learning.
